I remember being a little one, waking up in my military-housing bedroom (with the peculiar inescapable sense of transience--"you'll be stationed somewhere else soon"--and bland utility common to all on-base housing I've ever seen), running to Mom and Dad's room so I could sleep in their bed. I don't know for sure that it would have helped, but I think it's a safe bet I'd have felt less lonely and scared if my own bed had actually looked friendly. (Also, the extra-wide platform would have made a fantastic Matchbox Le Mans.)
