Who needs Nietzsche and his Dionysian and Apollonian? I've come up with my own dichotomy in artistic tastes: Madame Bovary vs. The Lion King. Madame Bovary people want art that's as close to indistinguishable from real life as possible; Lion King people (that's the musical, not the movie) want the artificiality of art highlighted, they want to see the mechanics. This picture rail is for Lion King people (not that Madame Bovary isn't excellent)--because if you're going to see the devices, they'd better be gorgeous.
