There is little love lost between this writer and the western greylag goose (scientific name Anser anser anser, and I'm not even kidding about that): when I was about eleven my family visited a woman with a pet goose she had trained to guard the house, and the beast interpreted my appearance as somehow threatening. I'm the only person I know who's been bitten by a goose. Nevertheless (or perhaps in a spirit of revenge), we here at Design Public love a good down comforter, so we've introduced a line of our own. Down--the tiny soft clusters under the bird's outer feathers--has two remarkable and related characteristics: fluffiness and warmth. The fibers interlock and trap air, so that each cluster becomes a sort of small balloon. The trapped air means the clusters have a greater volume, which makes them fluffy (and very light). It also absorbs and reflects your body heat, which is why down makes such wonderfully warm comforters. Ours are high-quality, hypoallergenic, well-constructed comforters--expect yours to last at least a decade.
