Deadly Squire
Knights were busy guys. They usually had a castle to run, and as many serfs to oppress as it took to grow enough food for everyone on the fiefdom. Then there were ceremonial occasions, quests, and of course the bashing and pillaging. You can’t expect a man with that much on his mind to be able to keep track of things like taking care of his horse and equipment. Indeed not! That’s why squires were invented.
