  4. Mixed Weave was inspired by “hand weaving samplers”, a custom in which fabrics are hand woven for the sole purpose of experimenting with a wide assortment of different weaves and colors. Mixed Weave is a nod to this exercise combining 13 different textural patterns in a deliberate sequence. Unified by color, the contrasting weaves add depth and texture to the tabletop while maintaining an understated elegance. Available as both a placemat and a runner, each piece represents a section of the large repeat of this design, making each one unique. Suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Made in USA with TerraStrand® and Microban®.

  5. Satin takes its name from the distinctive weave structure used during the manufacturing process. One yarn dominates another, appearing to float on top of the yarns woven in the opposite direction. Further enhancing this method, Chilewich created pearlescent yarns to move in the “fill” direction andmatte yarns in the “warp” direction for a different look on each side. The yarns were strategically spaced across the width of the textile to create graduating open spaces, which result in a beautiful effect when the placemat and runner are layered together on the table. Suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Made in USA with TerraStrand® and Microban®.

  6. Stitch was inspired by hand embroidered fabrics. Brightly colored yarns are alternately brought to the surface and then floated on the back using a weaving technique called “tissue pick.” The small windows of color contrast against their neutral backgrounds for a charming weightless effect that appears to be stitched by hand. Each individual yarn blends two colors from the same family resulting in an unexpectedly natural texture. This intricate and unique process allows the design team to closely manage the ultimate textile from start to finish. Suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Made in USA with TerraStrand® and Microban®.

  7. Wicker is the most recent addition to the expanding family of Basket Weave fabrics. Previous designs included: 1 yarn over 1 yarn, 2 over 2 and 4 over 4. Wicker is the first 4 over 8 weave. The simplicity of a basket weave allows the yarn itself and the colors chosen to become the heroes of the design. Wicker is woven with 8 yarns of the same neutral color in 1 direction, emphasizing the texture and tone of the material. The opposite direction of 4 yarns combines the same neutral with pops of color that play hide-and-seek in a design developed specifically for this weave. Suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Made in USA with TerraStrand® and Microban®.

  8. Alvar Aalto (1898-1976), one of the founders of Artek, was born in Kuortane, Finland. Alvar Aalto is recognized today as one of the great masters of modern architecture. During his long and prolific career, Aalto's work embraced almost all key public institutions: town halls, theatres, churches, libraries and universities as well as standardized housing and private homes. Aalto's architecture is distinctively Finnish. It is marked by a warm humanity and strong individuality. His buildings derive their special aesthetic character from their dynamic relationship with their natural surroundings, their human scale, superbly executed details, unique treatment of materials and ingenious use of lighting. Like all great art, however, Aalto's architecture transcends national boundaries. His work is not the exclusive property of Finland: it forms a part of a common cultural heritage of European and worldwide significance.
