Why not have your art provide a role in your home in addition to being an interesting focal point? Genius! Hence, an entire section dedicated to art that provides form and function.

Light Boxes
Prior to compiling the components to this wall art guide, we asked our designer friends for their thoughts on how to make a wall a stellar focal point. Joe Futshick from jefdesigns was the source of inspiration for this section thanks to his answer on how to make your wall a stellar focal point: “Lightboxes are a perfect example of form and function working together to enhance a space. It’s a work of art that is visually appealing while illuminating a room.” I certainly couldn’t have said it better myself not to mention his lightboxes speak louder than words (sorry, a little cliche, but it is true!):

You can even take it one step further and combine a giant chandelier, a painting, and light source into one with a Duffy London Chandelier Print Wall Lights. A great space saving option for those of us with tight quarters. Add a little class without taking up too much room. Now that is what I call major form and function.

Coat Racks
I am a sucker for repetition, especially when it is an item that is so wonderfully crafted that it deserves more than one point of recognition. A row of coat racks along a barren entry way or hallway is clever use of space as well as acting as a source to hang your coat, hat, scarf, handbag, dog leash, etc. Even when not in use the pieces look like art rather than simple ugly coat racks.

Window Film
As the folks from Wallter previously mentioned, doors, ceilings, hallways and stairways are all areas to keep in mind for an extra special spot of attention. Another area to add to the lineup: windows! Needing to keep the neighbors out but don’t want to don a heavy curtain? Try an Emma Jeff’s Window Film to cover the space in a modern design sort of way while also letting natural light in.

Mirrors
Particularly for small spaces that need the visual allusion of extra space, a mirror can add a lot of depth to a room while also being a source to check your teeth. You could go the funky route and line a hall with a collection of Choe and Tomlinson mirrors, or you could consider the more ornate option with a Harry Allen My Brothers Mirror.

Hanging Panels
Don’t have a wall but you want to separate a space? Consider a group of hanging panels like Inhabit Triptic Slats. The slats allow natural light through during the day while providing privacy and appear opaque in the evening. Of course, if you have plenty of wall you can always put up the panels as your wall decor. I know I want to!

Cork or Chalk Boards
The cork and chalk boards from notNeutral are a great way to adorn the walls with something that looks sharp while also providing a spot to post important notes or ideas. A long row of cork boards or chalk boards mixed and matched with a few wall panels… you’ll certainly have more than a source for posting. I would call it art!

There is something to be said about the aesthetic value of everyday objects, especially when showcased in a classic Vitra Uten Silo Wall Organizer. Whether placed in a bathroom, in a kitchen, over a desk, or simply on your wall, the organizer can make even the simplest object (like your rubber band collection) look mighty handsome.

Clocks
Last but not least (and a bit of a no brainer)…the clock. A good clock is sometimes all that is needed to perfectly adorn a space as well as provide time and structure.
