Harry Allen Brush Vase

Posted on April 30th, 2009 by Melissa

Designer Harry Allen’s Brush Vase in White brings back the raw excitement of a blank canvas that I often felt as a child in art class. Of course, that was before I realized that I’m terrible at painting. Even if you are a Picasso of sorts, this vase allows you to put down your brushes and take time to assemble the roses. Your guests will inquire about your eye for design as well as art.

Harry Allen’s Reality Series celebrates a tradition of found art by immortalizing objects that typically pass unnoticed. He dips objects like Rollerskates, nuts, bananas, (even his own hand!), in resin to create a mold. The result becomes art that wins the approval of Marcel Duchamp appreciators. The Brush Vase in White as well as the Bestow Vase/Candle Holder recently featured in NY Times Home and Garden, are both part of this curious collection. Wallter Slat Rack

Posted on November 21st, 2008 by Melissa

For some reason the Wallter Slat Rack reminds me of a picketed fence.  But this fruit falls far from the tree of the traditional American dream home. The Wallter Slat Rack is a play on Wallter’s popular wall applications which are intended for just decorative use. But the Slat Rack is functional, so you can acheive the same aesthetic with practical benefits. The wide grooves and elongated shelf holds magazines, umbrellas, bills and jackets all in one place. Why not make something as simple as a coat rack a bigger deal than a mere hook in the wall? New design should marry form and function, and challenge traditional concepts of what constitutes art. I believe the Wallter Slat Rack does just that.  The Slat Rack comes in Brown, Green, Orange and White, and to noone’s great surprise, this great design piece can be found right here at Design Public.

Amenity Nursery – Wetlands Organic Toddler Bedding

Posted on October 17th, 2008 by Melissa

Amenity Nursery - Wetlands Organic Toddler BeddingAmenity Nursery’s Wetlands Organic Toddler Bedding uses browns, yellows, ducks, and frogs to compose a complete organic nursery set for your child. The colors and animal characters evoke some of the greatest children’s literature that have inspired both children and adults for decades. A Frog sitting deftly on a log in the Wetlands strikes a resemblance to the languid marsh lifestyle of the Wind in the Willows. The Amenity Wetlands theme of Ducks, geese and grass, remind us of the burrows under which Beatrix Potter and friends would gather in Helen Beatrix Potter’s Classic Tales. Dress your child’s bedroom complete, or select whichever items suit their fancy, as all pieces are now sold individually or as a set. Amenity Nursery covers Woods, Woodlands, and Wetlands, who can tell what type of lands they will cover next!

Thomas Paul Parrot Tote

Posted on October 2nd, 2008 by Melissa

Thomas Paul Parrot ToteThe new Thomas Paul Fashion Totes are an indubitable reflection of the Designer’s New York Fashion sense. He started with couture neckware in the City and later expanded his repertoire to include the pillows, lighting and rugs that make up the centerpieces of many stylish homes. Now you can take Thomas Paul away from the runway, out of the house and into the streets. His newest Parrot Tote day bag is ideal for strolling around the park, bustling around the city, or meeting a friend for lunch. The vibrant green of the parrot catches the eye and makes everyone wish they were on a tropical resort somewhere. This little piece of eccentricity can compliment a boring outfit or accentuate an already slammin’ one. The soft cotton form and leather straps are friendly to carry and accessible for people of all styles, ages, creeds, etc. The Thomas Paul Parrot Tote stays true to the bird printed up front in that it speaks for itself. Of course he offers many other brilliant prints that can be found right here. Good luck deciding which one to wear!

DwellStudio Home Geometry Shower Curtain

Posted on September 26th, 2008 by Melissa

Dwellstudio Home Geometry Shower Curtains remind us that the home bathroom is an underrated place in our lives. Its role is essential, yet many find themselves frequenting the most mundane room in their house. Some try to personalize the space and with little effort find themselves looking at the same random pictures that tellingly qualify as “bathroom art”. These are usually the pieces that were not quite good enough to make it to the ‘important’ areas, and those which simply cannot be parted with. Dwellstudio’s new Geometry Shower Curtain will let you shed those pieces and focus on what’s important-spicing up the places that count. The Geometry Pattern appeals to children who make out space ships and interesting shapes from the array of dark and light colors, and to adults who have an affinity for the fun new wave Geometrics of the 1980’s. Make a statement without saying too much…

Donna Wilson Creatures – Rudi Raccoon

Posted on September 19th, 2008 by Melissa

Rudi Raccoon Pictured on far right It was hard to decide which Donna Wilson Creature to feature. There was a close tie between Edd Red Head, (the most bombastic red headed toy ever seen), and Rill, a fire colored fox with eyes like a bandit. But my true favorite of the bunch is Rudi Raccoon (pictured far right in photo). His awkward little body and white eyes would make the perfect office friend, play companion, or gift. Those who may not see love at first sight, try recalling Michel Gondry’s recent film “Science of Sleep”, where handmade creatures and playful art form character’s dreams and realities. Donna Wilson creates caricatures of animals and indescribable species each stuffed with personality by the hand of the artist. Still, It’s as if she put a pile of colored socks in a blender and the creatures came out on their own accord, forming a different sect of society. Donna Wilson’s Rudi Raccoon and other friends can be found right here at Design Public!

jefdesigns Home Bubbles Pillows

Posted on September 12th, 2008 by Melissa

There is something mysterious about the eye of the Octopus-like creature that stares at you from the corner of jefdesigns Home Bubble Pillow. Look closer and you’ll realize it’s a knot in a faux-wood printed pillow. Joe Futschik, founder of jefdesigns Home runs his ongoing sea anemone series now upon eco-friendly, kapok filled cushions. His taste for nature’s complexity, such as the grace of an abstract sea specimen, is now set within an optically illusive, wood grain print. He shows that us that it’s not always necessary to chop down a tree to enjoy the beauty of fine wood grain. Instead you can trick your senses into eco-consciousness. jefdesigns Home Bubble Pillow is available exclusively here at Design Public.

Fauna Kuma Bears

Posted on August 29th, 2008 by Melissa

Fauna’s animalistic tendencies spring to life with his latest organic cotton Kuma Bear. These soon-to-be collectibles can nestle snug against your classic heirloom teddy bear in its glass case. But don’t put them away now! Leave them out for admiration of Warholian color vibrance and hand sewn craftsmanship. Feel free to pet-name, but their given names are Zig, Zag, Cedar, Feather, Dot and Arrow which in my opinion, pretty accurately describe their personality and print. The Fauna Kuma Bear is available here at Design Public.
