A Passionate Team
We’re a small company (just 8 full time employees and a rotating collective of independent contributors) that wants to bring fresh new design to you. Design Public has never received any venture investment and grew solely through the hard work of the staff and the support of customers that called out for friendly fair service and an exciting collection of fresh and new modern design.

What we’re trying to do

Expose
Many of you know that you want to be different. You want to say something unique about yourself and your style, and this desire conflicts with the mass-market look you see at the mall. You may want something a little more modern, urban, and sophisticated. For you, our mission is to bring fresh new designs from the best contemporary designers and manufacturers. For everyone else, we want you to consider modern design. It’s a better way to live.
Educate
Buying furniture is a notoriously difficult process. How are you supposed to recognize quality or know what goes with what? We want to stop the pain and make sure that you are as educated as you can be, so we’ve sprinkled relevant information throughout our site to help you navigate through the process.
Inspire
We want to inspire creativity. Everyone is unique, and everyone is creative. So we’re here to supply the elements – both products and information – to help you construct a home unlike any other.
Furnish
In the end, it’s all about the furniture (and accessories) and using them to create your ideal living space. So, our mission is to provide furniture that’s thoughtfully designed, high quality, and affordable.

Our definition of good design

What is good design? It’s hard to distill down to a simple list, but the major things we strive for in our products are:

• Function: Products should solve problems for their users – taking into account the specific context in which they’re going to be used. If the user lives in a small space, a multifunctional piece can serve many purposes without taking up more room. If a table is going to see a lot of cold drinks, water resistance is key. And we like modular collections that allow each user to create a unique combination that fits their needs exactly.
• Value: We want all of our products be useful, well constructed, and affordable. To promote value, one of the key tenets of our philosophy is “design for manufacturability”. Incorporating the production process into the design helps to simultaneously lower cost while improving quality. It also minimizes waste, both in terms of the material used as well as the resources expended.
• Aesthetics: By aesthetics we mean not just the appearance of a product, but how it makes you feel – to touch it, to look at it, to use it. We want our products to be both visually and emotionally compelling.
• Relevance to our lifestyles: How does it relate to how we live today? How does it improve our lives and set the standard for the next generation? Good design responds to society’s needs and helps shape its values.
