A Graham & Brown Paintables Hankering

Ali

Graham and Brown Paintables SquaresOh lordy, Graham and Brown have sparked a major hankering with their new Paintables Wallpapers. You may have seen the photos of my space in the Apartment Therapy’s Cool Small contest (not cool enough to win, unfortunately). The place has a ton of character, but it needs a little somethin’ somethin’ on the super white walls. The answer has come to me thank you very much Graham and Brown…texture! Without a doubt I am a corduroy person, but I may need even more spice than that…how about the squares?

Boodalee Throw Pillows

Boodalee Throw Pillow-CircusI am all for elements in a home that have more than one look to them, like the new Boodalee Throw Pillows as an example. Why limit yourself to just one image when folks like designer Jeanice Skvaril give you the option to change it up? Some days you might be feeling squirrel-ish…other days you feel homely (i.e. a bird house). Some days you are all about popcorn…others you feel like an elephant. Just turn the pillow over and shazam! The change is made.

Survey Says…

Matt

Hey everybody! Thanks for taking the time to participate in our Newsletter feedback survey! The response was overwhelming and to my pleasant surprise, no one berated me or raked me over the coals. People even seem to – gasp – like us…Huzzah!

You shared your opinions already, it’s only fair I share some of the results of the survey and offer some commentary by yours truly:

  1. “The newsletters are too narrow…”
The newsletters are designed to fit the preview pane in Microsoft Outlook which is only about 600 or so pixels wide. If they were much wider portions of the newsletter could be cut off should you view it in Outlook. That being said, we’ll do what we can to get better content “above the fold” and simplify things a bit.
  2. “Way too much baby stuff!”
You got something against babies? OK, as soon as we can code it, we hope to provide the functionality to enable you to edit your subscription “preferences”. Here you should be able to choose to receive baby related content or not.
  3. “Keep the intros, you are funny.”
Why thank you but I can’t take all the credit…sometimes I get a little help from a super high profile content creation team we have in house. Click here for a picture of our best staff writer at Design Public headquarters.
  4. “The sidebar links are not working in Gmail.”
We’re aware of it and working on it. I LOVE me some gmail but it does some voodoo stuff to our code. It’ll be fixed in the next iteration of our newsletters.
  5. “We like food!”
Well you didn’t unanimously say that. But when I asked what other newsletters you subscribed to an overwhelming number of readers said they subscribe to newsletters from the likes of
epicurious, chowhound.com and other foodie related destinations. You like food. I like food. You like design. I like design. What’s the connection? I dunno, perhaps a Design Public recipes section? Or, maybe you can just come over for dinner sometime. Any allergies?
  6. “More design tips and advice…”
10-4 on that one. I’m pulling in some industry experts to give you the best advice around…stand by.
  7. “Puppies!”
    Yes, puppies.

Once again thanks for the feedback on the newsletters. You’ve given us some great ideas and awesome new projects to work on. If you’d like to add anything else to the discussion just leave it in the comments field below.

Flowie Dumpling Bag Love

Flowie Dumpling BagI am so incredibly impressed with what textile designer Yaling Hou of Flowie has created. Her hand screen printed designs are beautiful and her fabric selections make me drool (big time!). I typically am pretty picky about patterns and fabric, but I can’t find a single item in her collection that I don’t thoroughly enjoy. My favorite is the Dumpling Bag…what a shape! I just need some chocolate, a glass of wine, a chick flick, new shoes and a Flowie bag and I am girlie heaven.

Fauna Dachshund Shirt by Ross Menuez

Fauna Kids Long Sleeved T-Shirt DachshundRoss Menuez knows how to cultivate the next breed of dachshund lovers…put a Fauna Dachshund Shirt on your child at a very young age and you’ve got ‘em hooked. I’d have to say that out of most dog shapes and sizes, the dachshund group does have one of the most interesting forms. Thus, I’m totally in favor of sporting a Fauna Dachshund t-shirt along side an OFFI Dachshund My Pet Lamp (if you’re Dachshund obsessed).

Sitting Bull Fashion Bags

Sitting Bull Fashion Bags Happy PixelsWhen I think of the name Sitting Bull my mind first envisions a duck sitting on a plain bean bag chair. Then the little duck is replaced buy a massive bull. Then the simple bean bag chair transforms into colorful pixels or a Union Jack graphic. Funny how a name does wonders with my imagination.

Thout’s UtiliTILE: Forked Up and Holy Stump

THOUT UtiliTILE: Forked UpTHOUT’s UtiliTILE: Forked Up and HolyStump pieces genuinely tap into my inner modern lumberjack self. I have always been curious as to how my hand would do at knife throwing competition and wouldn’t you know it I have craved log rolling ever since I was a little girl. Which would be more practical…attempt to enter the Lumberjack World Competitions or settle for THOUT’s modern take? I’m thinking stick with THOUT.

Innermost Ghost Collection

Innermost 5 in 1 ShadeLighting as a statement piece is all the rage, and Innermosts Ghost Collection takes top honors in the statement department. Their Ghost Collection plays tricks with my brain because I see their pieces in two very different ways: In one sense, the forms of their shades remind me of the mysterious and unknown creatures floating around in the deep dark depth of the seas. Those of us above water rarely get to glimpse their odd yet practical shapes. In another sense, their pieces are the quintessential portrayal of glam, minimalism and style. I go back and forth with which idea I like more…elegant and sophisticated or mysterious and sea creature-esque.

OFFI Kapsule Chairs…eye candy!

OFFI Kapsule ChairsIf I was a child and my parents deprived me of the candy consuming luxury, I would plead with my mom/pop to get me an OFFI Kapsule Chair instead. The bright and delicious colors of the chairs remind me of a massive sugar loaded lolly, but without the calories/cavities. I am always partial to orange flavored lollies, but grape, razzledazzle berry, and sour apple would suffice (in that order) upon the event that orange was unavailable. Better yet, why not make it a complete candy store with all four chairs? So delectable!

Area Elin Throw Blankets and Shams

Area Elin Throw Blankets and ShamsAnki Spets and I are in complete agreement with the colors of her Elin Throw Blankets and Shams. If I could pinpoint my #1 ultimate, can’t get enough of it, crave to be outfitted and don my apartment all in one color…it would be gray. If I were to add one or two splashes of color to accent the gray it would be saffron or orange. Then there is navy. Navy complements all of the above and looks like it belongs with anything gray. I can’t think of a single I would add to the gray, orange, saffron, navy mix. Nope, not one.
