  1. The Organic Chair – a small and comfortable reading chair – was developed in several versions for the 1940 ‘Organic Design in Home Furnishings’ competition organised by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. With its sculptural shapes, the design was ahead of the times. But due to the absence of suitable manufacturing techniques, the armchair never went into production. Not until 1950 did it become possible to manufacture and market organically shaped seat shells in large quantities, as exemplified by Charles and Ray Eames's famous Plastic Armchair or Saarinen's Tulip Chair. The Organic Chair is also available in a version with an extended backrest and longer, wider armrests – the Organic Highback armchair.

  5. In 2005, AIA award-winning, local Duluth architect David Salmela designed the office for Loll's design/manufacturing facility and the good ideas never stopped. Nearly 7 years later we are happy to introduce a unique collection of Finnish-inspired, sculptural furniture by David. Taavi is an inspired low profile lounge perfectly suited to outdoor contemplation and Gladys is a slightly taller and narrower translation, with a vertical headrest that is more comfortable than it may appear. Both speak the same language.

  6. The Modernica Case Study Planter design originated during the highly prolific period in architecture and home furnishing designs immediately following WW2. The new designs were not only something new to look at but promoted a new attitude towards incorporating your home with a modern lifestyle. These new ceramic objects could be used as a planter and soften the lines of a room, or as a sculptural piece in the garden, thus blurring the lines between exterior and interior spaces.
