  1. For the tube clock, Piet Hein Eek’s starting point was a tube and an extrusion ring. Extrusion moulding is a design technique involving forcing aluminium, or paste for example, through a mould, the extrusion profile is what gives the material its shape. Piet devised a ring like that for the design of the clock face. We could not believe that such a thing did not already exist. It’s such a simple idea. we searched like mad, but it had not yet been done. Often, a good idea can be surprisingly simple. The simplest solutions have not yet been invented. This clock could have been designed a century ago. It is actually a textbook example of the Dutch mentality: the idea of keeping things normal and down-to Earth.

  2. Richard Hutten is classified among the most internationally successful designers of the Netherlands, and for that reason his name is often associated with the concept of Dutch Design. Richard Hutten: “I’m very keen on objects that are not limited to one function. The inverse is a mirror/clock hybrid that has more to it than meets the eye. The clock face is formed by the see-through shape in the mirror, which also creates a window that reveals the hands. By turning the dial, the 12 position of the clock can be changed. A clever feature that gives you the possiblity to hang the clock horizontally or vertically or make it lean casually against the wall. The warmth of solid oak stands in contrast to the cold appearance of the mirror, making this object suitable for any space.”

  7. Braun’s new digital table clock collection opens the year 2012 making use of updated technologies without losing the design discipline of Braun’s golden era. While the first round of travel alarm clocks were based on pre-existing Lubs designs from the 1980s and 1990s, the digital table clocks are brand new designs under the direction of Markus Orthey, a senior designer with Braun and Gillette in Germany. The Alarm Clock Radio has rounded corners and are flush on all sides. They have top quality, scratch-resistant, easy to read LCD screens, blue LED backlights, snooze functions and quick set controls on the side and top of the clock.

  8. Punkt. AC 01 offers you the pleasure of going back to the traditional alarm clock for everyday use. Why have your cell phone sitting on your night-table, when you can be woken up by a superb design object such as the AC 01? No radiation emissions, no unwanted calls in the middle of the night; just the pleasure of trusting your sleeping hours to a wonderfully simple object that, thanks to its extraordinary simplicity, will delight you every time you wake up to it. This clock is carefully conceived, as are all Jasper Morrison designs. The case is L-shaped extruded aluminum, real mineral glass fronts the clock which has luminescent hands and markers, as well as an LED light which is activated by pressing the back of the clock. At the 12 o'clock position is a dot alarm indicator, so at a glance you can tell if the alarm function is engaged or not. The alarm time is set through one dial on the back which protrudes through the clock cover. To set the time, one needs to remove the cover which reduces the chance of errors when setting the alarm. Three LR44 batteries each power light, alarm and timepiece, allowing longer overall battery life estimated to be about 1 year. Thoughtful design of the AC01 clock is meant to facilitate our lives, not complicate it.
