Karin Carlander Hand Crocheted Pot Holder

$43.82
Karin Carlander works in natural materials such as linen, cotton, wool and sisal. She bases her work on three key concepts: craftsmanship, knowledge and care, whether in relation to textile design, weaving, concept development or exhibition management. She has a keen eye for details without losing sight of the big picture. Karin takes a curious, open and observant approach to a new project, aiming to seek out the core and striving for coherence, calm and structure. She uses her craftsmanship and her knowledge to bring out the unique qualities in everything she does. Carlander uses collages in the drafting process mostly made directly on the loom. Already in preparing her sample weaves she designs patterns with the yarn. Her working process involves numerous sample weaves, often several in the same process, in an effort to allow the unplanned and unpredictable to emerge. She often uses varying weaving techniques and thread counts in a single sample and experiments with weaves, colors and materials to make new and unexpected patterns and combinations emerge under her hands. Once the difficult key choices have been made she refines the textile with attention to originality, material, color scheme and technique.
