Design House Stockholm

Founded in 1992 by Anders Färdig, Design House Stockholm started as a creative product development company for other brands. Using his vast knowledge in design management from prior experience at companies such as Boda Nova and Höganäs, Färdig created a network of independent designers that remains the platform from which we operate today. In 1997 the Design House Stockholm product collection was launched, starting with Harri Koskinen’s Block Lamp, which immediately became a worldwide success. The Block Lamp has remained one of our top selling products to this day, and is represented in MoMA’s permanent design collection. We have distinguished ourselves as a publisher of design rather than a conventional producer, working in the same way with designers that publishing houses work with authors. Rather than selecting a designer to make a specific product, all designers are invited to bring their personal ideas, of which some are selected for development and production.

We look for products that add something new to their genre, products with personality and character. Our collection does not have any specified boundaries - if a product is considered good enough and realistic to produce, we develop it. It does not matter if it is a mug, a chair, a couture collection or a piece of jewelry. The ambition is to be a mirror of the very best Scandinavian design today - the term ‘Scandinavian’ referring to a philosophic and aesthetic perspective, rather than geography and nationality. To gather a collection of design classics with timeless appeal and qualities that outlives temporary trends. These are the foundations of Design House Stockholm.

  8. Lena Bergström’s Björk collection is based on the natural shifting tones of wool. The expression in the woven structure is inspired by the black and white trunk of the birch tree (‘Björk’ in Swedish) and the leather represents the inside of the bark. The Björk collection consists of rugs in four sizes, ‘homebags’ or storage baskets in three sizes, and stools in two sizes. The Björk collection is based on a weft in wool, combined with details in leather. Wool is known not only for its softness, but also for its built-in resistance to soiling thanks to its natural oils. All Björk products are hand-woven pieces of handicraft, making every product unique.
