&Tradition Raft Stool NA3

$475.00
Story: Maritime objects fascinate because of their contrasting surfaces. The roughness of corroded wood aging
with beauty, blended with the industrial efficiency of metal structures. This is the inspiration behind the Raft Stool,
created by NORM architects Kasper Rønn and Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen. They have taken a modern Scandinavian
approach to create a unique piece of furniture that combines simplistic purity with a discreetly aged look. The
sandblasted surface of the stool legs, accentuate the structure of the wood, while the triple legs have the playful
appearance of a living creature in motion.
& the position of the legs allow for two seating positions, either with a single leg forward or two. The flat seat also
makes the stool equally useful as a side table.

&Tradition Hoof Table SW1

$550.00
Story: The main inspiration for Samuel Wilkinson’s HOOF LOUNGE TABLE derives from the feet which are
shapened at the ends producing a striking yet functional detail. The word ‘hoof’ originates from the protective part
of the feet of ungulate animals. In contrast to most tables, the leg ends of HOOF are left in natural wood so avoid
the paint from chipping off from being either kicked or knocked when cleaning.
The foot detail is created by reversing the usual manufacturing process. Most furniture that have a painted section
and a natural part are initially assembled, then masked off, and painted. HOOF stands out by being painted first
and then trimmed back to reveal the natural grain.
The table has emerged from continuous exploration and development of production techniques to create a fresh
aesthetic. Another detail that stands out when you experience the table is the soft rolled edge. The fine edge is created
from the soft chamfer being on the top and bottom.
This also gives the tables a tactile feel and clearly shows that the tables are made from solid wood.
The table is also available in a higher edition with a smaller tabletop.
& much of Wilkinson’s work carries references to nature and the beautiful, unimaginable creations found in the
scenery.

&Tradition In Between Chair SK1

$598.00
The interplay between positive and negative space is central to In Between, Sami Kallio’s new chair for &Tradition.
Its back and side panels provide a concrete shape and support, but forms are created equally by the gaps in
between them. In Between has a low-swung, crescent back- and armrest and a very slightly pitched seat pan.
Both are balanced by the dynamically angled legs, resulting in an equilibrium of forms that makes In Between a
contemporary design classic.
Kallio’s expertise in traditional woodworking craftsmanship is evident in his new chair. In Between is produced
using two classical techniques; compression moulding (making it light and thin, yet strong) and woodturning
(a technique that uses a lathe to achieve greater detail). The materials are ash and oak, both of which respond
particularly well to the techniques used. The production of In Between involves modern industrial manufacturing
processes and certain interventions by the human hand; a harmony of innovation and tradition.
To admirers of mid-century Danish design, In Between’s lightness and semicircular top rail may echo the work
of Hans Wegner (1914-2007), a designer whose work Kallio cites as a subconscious inspiration. In contrast to
Wegner’s 1949 Wishbone Chair (also known as the Y Chair), In Between has a more daring pitch, and a more
graphic, modular character. In form and technique alike, In Between gives a respectful nod to the past, but
ultimately looks forward.

&Tradition FLY Chair SC1

$2,646.00
Story: The FLY Series by SPACE Copenhagen is a lounge collection made up of two sofas and an armchair. Pushing
the idea of lounging to its fullest, FLY is a series that allows the user to sit, lie, rest, and relax.
Unlike many of the sofas and easy chairs in Scandinavian design history, FLY does not impose any particular posture
onto the sitter. The seat itself is optimised for comfort, with loose cushions for the back that can be arranged according to the user’s
own needs. But FLY adheres to tradition in other respects; the frame of the sofa and armchair, with a slatted back rest,
is made from oak, treated with white pigmented oil or smoked oil. It is the type of material and treatment that ages with true grace,
only becoming more beautiful with time.
& SPACE Copenhagen gathers much of their inspiration from travels abroad, often in the form of ambience and
mood. An example could be as simple as a particular wall in the streets of SoHo, New York, the distressed look of
which makes its way into SPACE Copenhagen’s imagination.
