Lights Up! Oscar Boudoir Lamp

$118.00
You know how at the Academy Awards they're supposed to say "the Oscar goes to" instead of "the winner is"? (Apparently they're afraid of implying that Al Pacino is a loser.) Well, I don't know about that statuette, but anyone who gets an Oscar from Design Public--an Oscar lamp, that is, by Lights Up!--is automatically a winner.

The resin base comes in four different friendly colors, and the shade is available in a couple solids and some great prints. But we recommend you put it on a table--not your mantel.

Lights Up! Doubles Deco Pendant

$138.00
I have a theory. (Stick with me, folks.) I theorize that H.G. Wells really had a time machine, and that he used it to visit our time. He got here, saw Lights Up! Doubles Deco lamps everywhere, and just kind of assumed they had taken over. What he didn't understand was how, so when he got back home he tried to come up with some story to explain it. But since he was a science fiction writer, he didn't come up with the easy answer--they're an extraordinary combination of cute and stylish, they're graceful, and they're practical--instead he came up with The War of the Worlds. But we can let you in on the truth here: it's perfectly safe for you to take a Doubles Deco lamp home with you. In fact we recommend it.

Lights Up! Rex Pendant Lamps

$158.00
As retro is the spirit of the age, we here at Design Public are after a Huey Lewis revival. Yes, that's right, it's once again "Hip to Be Square" (and it seems if anyone would know the size of the gap between hip and square, it might just be Huey Lewis). Exhibit A: the Rex lamp from Lights Up!, which is properly rectangular (except the small pendant), but don't let the details distract you--it's oh so hip. The remarkably sharp lines and high-quality neutral linen shades would warm Mies's high-modernist heart, but the price and beauty will work in almost any pad.

Lights Up! Meridian Small Sconce

$198.00
The Meridian lamp by Lights Up! is really more of a lantern than a lamp; but it's really more of a Platonic ideal of Lantern-ness than it is a lantern. The base is a brushed-nickel finish, but it almost vanishes when you consider it against the column of light that stretches above it. The Meridian lamp looks more like a domesticated lightsaber than it does a regular lamp: pure light, tamed into a specific bacillar shape for a specific use (although without the nifty sound effects). The pendant version is neat too, and is available with a patterned shade.
