The Finnish architect and designer Alvar
Aalto originally designed the Siena
pattern for fabrics. His idea was that
it could be used freely for different
purposes. Aalto had a special fondness
for Italy. In the course of his life he often
returned to Italy, where he established
important contacts and participated in
architectural competitions and projects.
